The Brea Police Explorer Post is currently recruiting new explorers! The explorer program is designed to build confidence, instill respect for others and a sense of pride in achievement and community service. Brea Police Explorers are exposed to all aspects of police work in the city in a controlled and safe environment. Being a police officer in today’s environment is a challenging and stressful, yet rewarding career. If your child is interested, participating in our explorer program will help them decide if a career in law enforcement is right for them. Many of our former explorers have moved on to successful careers at the Brea Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.

The Brea Police Department Explorer Post is comprised of students interested in a career in Law Enforcement. Explorers participate in:
- Police related training
- County-wide and out of state Competitions
- Ride-a-longs with police personnel
- Community service events
- Field trips
- Must be entering into the 8th grade and no older than a high school graduate.
- In good standing at home, school, and in the community
- Able to pass a background investigation
- Explorers must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. We emphasize that education is most important.
- Explorers must attend the meetings regularly and participate in designated community service events. An extended leave of absence may be granted due to exceptional circumstances.
- Explorers must attend the OCLEEAA Explorer Academy and successfully graduate. Failure to pass the Explorer Academy may result in termination.
- Explorers must remain in good standing at home, school, and in the community. Much like Peace Officers, Explorers are held accountable to higher standards than their peers.
- Explorers (and/or their parent/guardian) must have a Facebook account for means of communicating with the Post. We have found this to be the easiest and fastest way to spread Post information to the entire group. This is also how we record our attendance and participation.
There are no fees or dues associated with the Explorer Program. The Explorers are responsible for paying their Academy tuition and will need to purchase their uniforms. Some portions of the uniform are reimbursable upon graduating the Academy.
OCLEEAA and the Explorer Academy
OCLEEAA is the Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor’s Association, which is comprised of law enforcement agencies from Orange and Los Angeles counties. This association coordinates Explorer events throughout Orange County and sponsors the Explorer Academies and a yearly competition.
The Explorer Academy is a five-day, live-in, intense academy designed to challenge Explorers physically, mentally, and emotionally to achieve goals greater than that which they thought capable of obtaining. It simulates an abbreviated basic law enforcement academy. During the Academy, Explorers participate in numerous law enforcement related training classes (classroom and hands-on) and physical training.
OCLEEAA sponsors two annual academies, one in February and one in August. The Academy is usually held at the Boy Scouts Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center.
The Brea Police Explorer Post usually conducts their meetings on the first three Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 – 8:30 PM with some exceptions. Please contact one of the Advisors listed below if you are interested in attending one of these meetings to find out when and where the next meeting will be.
